About the Friends of the Blackstone Public Library
Since 1985, the Friends of the Blackstone Public Library have been proud to partner with our town library, supporting the programs, events, and resources that make our library a vibrant community hub.
How Library Funding Works in Blackstone
A lot of people in town are curious about how library programs and services are funded. It takes a collaborative community effort:
- Town Funding (Municipal Budget)
- What it covers: The library building, facility maintenance, staff salaries, and the main collection (books and media).
- Programming Supplies: $0 – $500 allocated annually in the town operating budget.
- Library-Managed Grants & State Aid
- What it covers: External grants and funds applied for and managed directly by the library staff (such as adult and senior craft drop-in events).
- The Friends of the Blackstone Public Library
- What it covers: We raise $7,000+ annually through community generosity to fill the gaps for guest speakers, youth and children’s events, library clubs, additional museum passes, and more! Thank you to our sponsors and community partners.
(Note: While library staff and daily volunteers keep the library running smoothly—with Senior Tax work-off participants helping shelve materials—the Friends operate strictly as a non-profit fundraising support group).
Take Our 1-Minute Community Poll!
Got a minute? Help guide our fundraising! The Friends of the Blackstone Public Library want to know which programs and passes you love most so we can direct our support where it matters. (Name and email are totally optional—we just want your feedback!)
(Note: This poll is purely to gather patron feedback to guide our fundraising support—we don’t dictate or make library programming!)
